Katahdin Area Trails

Bait Hole Multi-Use Trail System

Bait Hole Recreation Trails offer easy, wide trails for walking, running, or biking during the summer. The trail network is named after the pond west of the trailhead where bait fish were once kept for fishing in nearby Elbow Lake. Moose and seasonal waterfowl can frequently be seen in this pond and nearby marsh.
North Twin Dam Loop: (1.6 miles round-trip)

Penobscot River Trails

Penobscot River Trails

Penobscot River Trails is a multi-purpose trail system that consists of mountain bike trails, hiking trails, xc ski trails, and snowshoe trails. The entire trail system is 16 miles total, equipped with a Visitor Center, and two warming huts with vault toilets and wood-burning stoves along the way.

Michael Michaud Trails

Michaud Walking & Biking Trail

Conveniently located in downtown Millinocket, the Michael Michaud Walking & Biking Trail is a paved loop trail along the edge of Millinocket Stream. This trail passes through some forested areas, a riverside public park, residential neighborhoods, as well as by two schools. Local volunteers have spent countless hours planting flowers, trees, and shrubs creating a pleasant landscape for the walker or casual cyclist to enjoy.

Katahdin Woods & Waters National Monument

Encompassing more than 87,500 acres and spread across a diverse and stunning landscape, Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument is a celebration of a land that has inspired poets and presidents alike. Visitors will be impressed by the spectacular views of state’s iconic highest peak, Mount Katahdin, and will enjoy exploring the woods, rivers, streams, and hills of this amazing area. The national monument has plenty of opportunities for exploration and discovery with its scenic vistas, intriguing night skies, an astounding diversity of flora and fauna, and impressive geologic features. Visitors have their choice of recreational opportunities when visiting Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument including canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing.
